Big Idea: Happiness comes from knowing that God works through every moment of life.

We're not always sure what happiness is.
- People spend their time organizing their lives so what they want to happen will happen.
- Jesus said that happiness comes from not having everything.
"There's a time for everything and a season for everything under heaven."
- Ecclesiastes 3:1
- All life's experiences are inevitable and irresistible, coming one second at a time.
- Illustration: To illustrate the verse, "a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them," Briscoe explains that in biblical times, soldiers would destroy the walls of cities they conquered and scatter the rubble over the land so that crops couldn't grow.
The reason for burdens is that we might turn to God and learn to revere him.
- There are two reasons we would turn to him:
- God's Word tells us there is a beauty in all the things that happen in time.
a. Illustration: Briscoe recaps a story shared by a congregant who was involved in a helicopter crash. While buried underneath a pile of rubble, she heard indigenous people praying that God would spare her life; she commented that despite her physical pain, it was a beautiful moment.
-God has set eternity in people's hearts.
a. Mankind, in every part of the world, has a sense of the numinous, which is usually paired with a sense of morality.
