Introduction:
- Illustration: May begins with a lengthy, humorous look at church billboards, ending with a sign that quotes this sermon’s primary text: “O foolish Galatians.”
- Galatians 3:1-3
- Paul called the Galatians “foolish” because instead of continuing to live in God’s grace, they were trying to move forward in the Christian life through their own human effort.
- The blessings of God are not something you will ever earn.
- Big Idea: Faith opens the window to God’s blessings in your life.
Faith makes you right with God.
- Galatians 3:24
- The law shows us how sinful we are.
- Galatians 3:21-22
- If you want to stay right with God, there is only way to do it—put your faith in Jesus Christ.
- Galatians 3:25
- You began the Christian life by placing your faith in Jesus, the only way to continue to grow in the Christian life is through faith in Jesus.
Faith puts you in touch with God’s power.
- Galatians 3:5
- God is willing to work miracles in our lives if we’re willing to put our faith in him.
- Expect to see miracles mostly in other people’s lives.
- Look for opportunities to be the miracle in other people’s lives.
- Illustration: May tells the story of a family that was generous to a single mother to illustrate how walking faith gives us opportunities to be generous, to be kind, and to be a miracle in other people’s lives.
Faith gives you access to your true inheritance.
- Galatians 3:8-9,29
- If we have the same faith-based righteousness as Abraham, then we are like children of Abraham, and we share the same blessing that was given to Abraham.
- Genesis 12:3
- Genesis 18:18
- God wants to bless you so that you can bless others—this is our heritage.
- Whatever blessing God has put in your life, realize that it has been given to you so that you can bless others.
Conclusion:
- The reason Paul said, “Oh foolish Galatians,” was because they were trying to earn, through their own goodness, that which God is willing to give only by faith.
- Faith opens the window to God’s blessings in your life.
