Introduction:
- Galatians is a book about experiencing victory in Christ.
- Big Idea: Along with the freedom that we have been given in Christ comes a responsibility.
We have a responsibility to others.
- Galatians 6:1
- Our first responsibility to others is a responsibility of restoration.
- -You’ve got to take care of yourself first, and get
- your own spiritual household in order before you start
- trying to fix other people.
- -If you don’t know how to be gentle and humble, you’re
- not qualified to correct others.
- -It is not enough to tell someone what they’re doing
- wrong; you need to be willing to do whatever it takes
- to help them make things right.
- Another responsibility we have toward others is the responsibility of support.
- -Galatians 6:2-3
- We have a responsibility of doing good.
- -Galatians 6:10
- -Illustration: May illustrates the opportunity
- to do good by telling a story of someone who
- anonymously paid his restaurant bill.
We have a responsibility to ourselves.
- Our first responsibility to avoid comparisons.
- -Galatians 6:4
- -God doesn’t compare you to other Christians, so don’t
- compare yourself.
- Our second responsibility is the responsibility of good behavior.
- -Galatians 6:5
- -Galatians 6:8
- -We have two good motives for being the very best that
- we can be: it pleases God, and it gives us life.
- -Galatians 6:7
- Another responsibility we have to ourselves in the responsibility of perseverance.
- -Galatians 6:9
- -Keep doing the right thing, and eventually it will pay
- off.
- -Illustration: May tells a story from Napolean
- Hill about a miner who quit too soon, watching the man
- he sold his mine to reap the rewards.
We have responsibility to God.
- We are responsible to live according to this principle. we are saved by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obedience to the law.
- -Galatians 6:14
- -Romans 3:21-22
- -Our responsibility to God, then, is to come to him on
- his terms, not our own.
- -And this is his promise: if we will come to him in
- faith, he will give us life beyond our greatest dreams.
Conclusion:
- The Christian life is a life of freedom, it’s a life of victory, and it’s a life of responsibility.
